What is an RV Inspection
RV inspections are a thorough check of all the functions of an RV by a third-party expert usually a licensed RV inspector. RVs are very complicated and need more than a typical auto mechanic. RVs have multiple types of AC units, slide outs, engines, water systems, electrical systems, appliances and much more. While doing an RV inspection does not guarantee your RV will be in perfect condition, using a certified RV inspector helps to minimize the risk of buying an RV with pre-existing issues.
How Do You Inspect an RV?
RVs are very complex machinery whether you are inspecting a motorhome or travel trailer. Our inspectors use a thorough inspection checklist and detail their findings. This does not guarantee you won’t have any issues but when making a large purchase it is best to get a trained set of eyes to look for issues the RV you are buying could have.
Do What The Experienced RV Buyers ALWAYS Do, Get the RV Inspected From a Third Party
Do I Need an RV Inspection If I’m Buying at a Dealership?
All reputable RV dealers will do an inspection prior to delivering the RV. They look for safety issues typically but anything deemed cosmetic or non-safety related is up to the dealer and the buyer to negotiate. Some dealers will give you a pre-delivery checklist but typically they keep this as an internal document and don’t show the buyer, especially on used RVs. We highly recommend getting the RV looked at by a third-party inspector. Most state laws in the US are As-Is states meaning once you purchase the RV and if nothing is put on a “We-Owe” then the repairs are up to the new owner. This can cost thousands of dollars. Not everything can be caught in an inspection but there are many common issues to look for that trained inspectors can help identify before you take ownership.
Do I Need an RV Inspection On a Used RV From a Private Seller?
We HIGHLY recommmend getting an RV inspection on a used RV from a private seller. Private sellers may “know” their RV better than a dealership but there are many componets that can become inoperable over time or poor maintenance. An RV inspection can not detect all issues an RV can have but if you are making a major investment such as a recreational vehicle we recommend getting the best information possible before handing over the check. This provides peace of mind for both the buyer and the seller. Once a buyer takes possession of an RV it is very unlikely or at least very difficult to have any recourse over the seller.
